PA12 is the default polymer for HP Multi Jet Fusion and SLS. Mechanical properties are isotropic enough that PA12 parts replace injection-molded production at low to mid volumes. Carbon-fiber-filled variants (CF-PA12) add stiffness for structural applications.
Mechanical and physical properties
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Tensile strength | 48 MPa |
| Elongation at break | 20-24% |
| Density | 1.01 g/cm³ |
| Modulus | 1.6 GPa |
| Max service temperature | 80-100 °C |
| Glass transition Tg | 53 °C |
| UV resistance | Good (with stabilizer) |
Typical applications
- End-use functional parts in mid volumes.
- Custom housings and ducts.
- Bridge production runs.
- Service replacement parts for low-volume legacy products.
Coloring and finishing
PA12 dyes well to a uniform black, gray, or blue. For color-critical parts use vapor smoothing followed by spray paint and clear coat.
Specifying it on Uretyco
- 1Pick PA12 (MJF/SLS)
Default for powder-bed fusion.
- 2Decide on finish
Standard depowdered, bead blast, or vapor smooth.
- 3Choose color
Natural off-white or dyed black/gray/blue.
- 4Use CF-PA12 for stiffness
Carbon-fiber-filled variant for higher modulus.
