Plastics
DelrinPOMAcetalGears

Low-friction, dimensionally stable engineering plastic for gears and bearings.

Delrin (homopolymer POM) is the precision engineering plastic for gears, bearings, and sliding components. It machines like brass, holds tight tolerances, and resists fatigue under cyclic loads.

Mechanical and physical properties

PropertyValue
Tensile strength70 MPa
Elongation at break30%
Density1.42 g/cm³
Modulus3.1 GPa
Max service temperature100 °C
Friction coefficient (steel)0.21
Machinability ratingExcellent

Typical applications

  • Precision gears and pulleys.
  • Bushings and bearings.
  • Snap-fit assemblies.
  • Conveyor wear strips.
Bonding limits

POM does not glue well — most adhesives bead off. Mechanical fasteners or self-tapping screws into bosses are the recommended assembly methods.

Specifying it on Uretyco

  1. 1
Pick Delrin / POM from the dropdown

Homopolymer (Delrin) or copolymer (Acetron) variants.

  2. 2
    Specify tolerance class

Tighter than standard ISO 2768 for precision gears.

  3. 3
    Plan for thermal expansion

POM expands ~120 µm/m/K — design fits accordingly.

  4. 4
    Avoid bonded joints

Use mechanical fasteners or ultrasonic welding.
