Polycarbonate is the impact-resistant transparent thermoplastic. It absorbs energy without shattering and machines or molds beautifully. Tradeoffs: poor solvent resistance, susceptibility to UV without stabilizers.

Typical applications
- Machine guards and safety enclosures.
- Bullet-resistant glazing (laminated).
- Lab safety windows and visors.
- Medical and lighting components.
PC stress-cracks in contact with strong solvents. Avoid acetone, MEK, gasoline. Use PC-FR (flame retardant) for electrical applications and UV-stabilized grade for outdoor.
Specifying it on Uretyco
- 1Pick PC from the dropdown
Clear, FR-grade, UV-stabilized variants available.
- 2Specify polish for clarity
Mechanical or vapor polish to restore optical surface after machining.
- 3Plan UV protection if outdoor
Use UV-stabilized grade or apply hard coat.
- 4Avoid glue with strong solvents
Use PC-specific adhesives or ultrasonic welding for assembly.
