Process-specific tips

  • CNC: add internal radii, avoid excessive depth, open features to easier tool access, and reduce unnecessary surface roughness requirements.
  • 3D printing: hollow bulky parts where suitable, avoid support-heavy orientation, increase wall thickness only where needed, and choose the right technology before finishing.
  • Sheet metal: use standard thicknesses, avoid holes near bends, reduce bend count, and keep flange sizes realistic.
  • Molding: keep wall thickness consistent, add draft, avoid undercuts, and freeze the design before tooling.
